DRESS TO IMPRESS: Accessorizing 101: Rules of Engagement

As Personal Stylists, we are always sure to remind our clients that our accessories can truly make an outfit or break it. Jewelry is not just a pretty face, it often serves a purpose. It can distract the attention to or away from a part of the body that you want to minimize. For example, a statement necklace can draw the eye upwards, and when your eye spends more time in one area of the body, it maximizes that space.  This not only draws attention to the neck and bust lines, it allows your eye to spend less time on the lower part of the body, resulting in an illusion that the hips and bust are aligned–thus creating the imagery of an hourglass shape. Similarly, we love that you can throw on a long necklace or draped scarf that will help draw the eye down to the waist, then back up, which helps flatter your shape and create a long, lean line with the body, as well as take some of the attention off of the bust line or shoulders.

Aside from it’s functionality, baubles can be an expression of who you are–trendy or classic, statement or simple. We’ve compiled a few looks incorporating some of our favorite jewelry trends of the moment, and worked them into outfits that fit your day-to-day needs!

Weekend Casual

On the weekends we love to be cozy too, but that doesn’t mean our accessories stay tucked away! When layered up in your leggings, cozy cardigan, and tee, wrap up with a great cashmere scarf, a cute knit hat, rings, and a backpack–the hit bag of the season!

Daytime Chic

We are all about the chokers, and this one speaks to our classic gal. We love the look of a white woven tucked into a great straight leg denim, a belt, and a velvet blazer. Add a timeless wristwatch for effortless sophistication.

One thing in the jewelry department we can’t get enough of right now is mixing our metals! Gold, silver, rose gold, gun metal…anything goes. And when you keep the rest of your outfit simple and chic, more is more is more!

Don’t be afraid to go big and introduce some color with your baubles this season, ladies. What goes better with a slip dress and moto jacket? A navy velvet scarf, feathered earrings, and gorgeous gemstone stacked rings of course! Break the mold!
