The next fashion week is right around the corner with a launch date of October 12th!! CMH Fashion Week, founded in 2010 by Thomas McClure, is a non-profit organization showcasing local and emerging designers while providing scholarships to fashion design students. This year there will be 10 local designers and NYFW alumni and headliner, Althea Harper from Project Runway, sending their collections down the runway! Behind this huge production, is CMH Fashion Week Style Director and board member, Khola Waddy-Jones. As style director, Khola helps choose the designers that will be featured in the Finale Runway Show as well as other events they put on during Fashion Week, while also helping edit the designers collections and styling the photo shoots and events. Although Khola is extremely busy with CMH Fashion Week approaching fast, we were able to chat about her fashion favorites…
FALL FASHION GO TO PIECE THIS YEAR: I’m embracing ‘simple chic’ this season so I’d have to say an over the calf boot. It can work for a casual look as well as a dressy look. Make it a statement piece by buying in a bold color like red or muted cobalt blue.
FASHION ICON: Miroslava Duma & The Olsen Twins.
FIRST ITEM OF CLOTHING YOU SPLURGED ON: My Louis Vuitton Speedy 35 bag. It’s a classic, so it’s an investment piece.
FAVORITE DESIGNER: Prabal Gurung. His use of prints is amazingly modern.
FAVORITE TREND AT THE MOMENT: I’m not big on trends because I think a person needs to dress in what works for them and not every trend is for everybody. If I had to pick one I would say, the embellished trend. Give me a piece with studs, beading or embroidery. I’m all over it!
