These Boots Were Made for Styling: The Fall Boot Edit

Let’s talk boots: The footwear foundation of Fall/Winter.

The boot has been dominating Fall wardrobes since the beginning of time (literally – they’re dated as far back as 15,000 B.C., in Spanish cave drawings).

But the styles that are taking over the season – and how to style them, for that matter – evolve with each cycle of the leaves falling.

We connected with two of our go-to sources for all things trends, our stylists Britt and Whitney, to tell us which boots we should be reaching for this autumn/winter.

Plus, they put together four, fashion-forward looks you can shop or use for inspo in your own closet. After all, ‘these boots were made for walking styling!

The Tall Boot

Whitney’s Styling Guide:

For tall boots this Fall/Winter season, focus on a few key characteristics.

First, ensure the shaft is relaxed around the calf, similar to this pair from Khaite.

Second, look for a boot with an elongated toe bed; it doesn’t have to be pointy, but it should extend beyond the toe and have a slim appearance.

Third, embrace the kitten heel—it’s the ultimate “it” girl update for tall boots, whether skinny or architectural. We love this pair from Khaite as a splurge or Reformation for a budget-friendly option.

The Western Boot

Whitney’s Styling Guide:

When styling the Western trend, aim for a sophisticated “Beth from Yellowstone” vibe rather than a full country rodeo look — unless, of course, you’re actually heading to a rodeo!

We particularly love western-inspired booties from Schutz and Freda Salvador.

Whether it’s studs, fringe, or classic Western stitching, feel free to make this trend your own!

The Slouch Boot

Britt’s Styling Guide:

These heels may not be for the faint of heart, but she’s a Cool Girl with a capital C.

This concept has a bit of nostalgia wrapped in, particularly styled with a skinny denim, but feels updated by pairing it with an on-trend bomber, zipped up to get the full funnel effect.

For a fun nod, these earrings echo the slouch shape of the boot.

Britt’s Look:

-Slouch boots: Schutz Maryana Up Slouch Pointed Toe Boot

-Bomber jacket: HALFBOY Smooth Bomber Jacket

-Denim: FRAME The Pencil Jeans

-Earrings: Jenny Bird Sundra Studs

-Bag: A.L.C. Simone Bag

The Ankle Boot

Britt’s Styling Guide:

For the ankle boot, it really comes down to styling in order to ensure it feels fresh.

This pop of color in burgundy (bonus for also being suede — the texture of the season), layers into your Fall wardrobe seamlessly.

Here, we opted for a full-length pant in a similar color to elongate the leg. It’s not a rule, but often concealing the top of the boot shaft will provide the cleanest look.

Topping the look off is a beautiful autumnal-palette jacket that has us ready for the leaves to pop.

Britt’s Look:

-Ankle boot: STAUD Wally 45MM Suede Ankle Boots

-Jacket: Ulla Johnson Ambrose Ombré Wool-Blend Coat

-Pants: rag & bone Skylar High-Rise Corduroy Trousers

-Top: Emma Top (shop local!)

-Earrings: Sahira Jewelry Arabella Statement Earrings (shop local!)

-Bag: Reformation Medium Vittoria Tote Bag
