Wardrobe Fatigue… yes, it’s a real thing!
Chances are, you may have experienced feeling overwhelmed by your closet, stressed about shopping, or uninspired by your outfits. But don’t worry, your *personal* stylists have *personally* prepared a list of hacks to overcome it.
Scroll through to discover the Top 6 Signs of Wardrobe Fatigue and our insider tips on how to combat each of them.
1.) You have a full closet of nothing to wear.
This is often indicator number one. There are an unlimited number of reasons you could be feeling this way:
You’re feeling overwhelmed. You’re not inspired by what you see. You’re seeing too much.
The consensus? Your current wardrobe in it’s entirety isn’t working for you.
Combat It: Take a second to stop and really evaluate what’s missing from your closet. There are likely core gaps in your wardrobe that need to be filled. These missing pieces to the puzzle can help you pull together looks that thoughtfully work together.
2.) You’re shopping often but still unsatisfied.
There’s this major misconception that continuous shopping will solve all our problems.
Don’t get us wrong, we love a good shopping spree around here!!
However, a constant on slot of impulse purchasing often only offers temporary excitement rather than solving the underlying problem.
Combat It: Intentional shopping makes all the difference. Before you hit the boutiques or begin doom scrolling online inventories, create a shopping check list of your true wardrobe needs.
3.) You’re wearing the same 10% of your closet.
Here’s a crazy stat for you: The average woman owns 95 pieces of clothing… but only regularly wears 10-12 of them.
When you tend to start reaching for the same outfits more often, it can indicate you’re experiencing wardrobe fatigue.
It could be a sign you’re feeling overwhelmed with having to make outfit choices yourself. Or, that you’re feeling uninspired by what you see in your closet.
Combat It: Challenge yourself! Take the time to create new outfit combinations you’ve never worn before. Or, tap in a professional to identify styling opportunities you may have never even imagined.
4.) Your closet doesn’t match your current lifestyle.
Promotions. Becoming a parent. Post-grad. Retirement. Remote work. Or, your personal style simply changing.
All these things can impact the way you want to dress. But is your dress evolving as you do?
The truth is that unless you start to make changes in your wardrobe and shopping decisions, your closet may be stuck in a previous version of yourself that doesn’t serve current you.
Combat It: It’s time to rebuild! Make sure that your wardrobe is built around the life you’re living in the present, not the past.
5.) You save clothes just in case.
It’s totally fine to keep a few pieces for sentimental value or more unique occasions! But saving too many of these clothes can become a problem.
While your pieces are waiting for the right moment, time catches up and they may no longer fit or be in style.
These clothes are taking up space, making it harder for you to see (and wear) the clothes you love.
Combat It: Be honest with yourself. If the clothes aren’t getting use, consider donating them to the Encore Free Store. Move the pieces you’re saving for unique occasions or sentimental reasons to a storage area.
6.) Shopping feels overwhelming instead of exciting.
You know it’s a sad day when the things that used to bring you joy start to become the things you dread. And by “things,” we of course mean… shopping!
When the weight of having too many choices and sorting through ever-changing trends kicks in, it’s a heavy burden to bear.
Combat It: The clothes you add to your closet should be investments that make sense for your outfitting goals vs expensive experiments. Having a specific strategy (and a professional who understands your body, lifestyle, and outfitting goals) makes all the difference.
