TRENDING NOW: How to Wear Spring’s Hottest Trend; Utility

What’s the hottest trend? As stylists, it’s a question we hear often and we love it! But more importantly than “WHAT,” we love when our clients ask us “HOW” they should be wearing the hottest trends. While trends are important, it’s even more important to know how to wear them, as in shape, silhouette and your style preference are mostly definitely KEY factors! Back in February, we shared our round of Top Trends for Spring 2019, one of those being UTILITY…think boiler suits, khaki, belted waists, cargos. etc. With the idea of head to neutrals being another key trend for the season, it is no surprise to us that UTILITY is shaping up to be “THE IT” trend for the season. There are many ways one can approach wearing this trend and we wanted to give a dose of fashion inspo so it inspires you to embrace utility in a way that feels and looks good on YOU. Today, we are going to give you a range of day to night looks in various ways from a structured jacket to a jumpsuit, we’ve got you covered.

UTILITY JACKET

1. ALC Cargo Jacket  | 2. Rebecca Minkoff  Graphic Tee | 3. Madewell Straight Denim| 4. Ancient Greek Niki Nails Sandal | 5. Rebecca Minkoff Blythe Belt Bag

Day: A cargo jacket is an easy way to begin embracing the utility trend! From the collar to the front seams to the angled pockets, we love everything about this piece. For this easy daytime look, this ALC cargo jacket is serving as our finishing piece. For a casual day of running around, we love the idea of a simple, yet bold graphic tee paired with straight cropped jeans from our favorite denim spot, Madewell. A Grecian inspired sandal to ground the look and a chic little belt bag so you can keep those hands free!
Night: As you transition to evening, this jacket can still serve as your finishing piece. For this look, we opted for these fun snake print pants by Joie. Also, they are pull-on, which makes them all the more comfortable! An easy white tee for layering underneath the jacket (and tucked). A cognac colored pump for a touch of neutral color pop and a gold vertical bar necklace for finishing touches.

UTILITY PANT

1 Veronica Beard Field Cargo Pant | 2 Equipment Slim Signature Blouse | 3 Honey Rose & K Coin Necklace | 4 Stuart Weitzman Anny Pump | 5 Chanel Flap Bag with Top Handle

Day: Cargo pant by day? Why yes. While this pant style has more of a masculine feel, it can most definitely be dressed up for a chic day at the office or a round of lunch meetings. We love the slenderness of this particular cargo pant by Veronica Beard. These pants do have pockets that are quite minimal and not largely square. And lastly, the touch of hardware at the ankle makes these cargo pants all the more chic. To give this pant a dose of feminine flair, we paired it with a classic silk button down. Depending on your preference and day-time environment, you can fully tuck or half tuck this beauty and roll those sleeves. To complete this look, add an ultra fem handbag, a slender stiletto and a chunky statement necklace like this one from Honey Rose & K.

1 Veronica Beard Field Cargo Pant | 2 Free People Sofia Halter Tank | 3 J Crew Classic Denim Jacket | 4 J. Crew Rattan Clutch | 5 Cult Gaia Pia Mule

Night: A cargo pant makes the perfect option for an easy night out on the town that includes dinner or drinks al fresco. We paired the same pant with a silk print top that has a subtle drape to it. To create proper balance for this look, a layering piece is essential, hence the denim jacket. To finish off the outfit, we love the idea of incorporating texture. These roped leather mules by Cult Gaia and a simple rattan clutch will do the trick! And oh yes, grab that gold hoop earring that you have laying on your nightstand and you will be good to go.

UTILITY JUMPSUIT

1. Oresund Iris Workwear Belted Jumpsuit | 2. Madewell Oversize Jean Jacket | 3. Frye Ilana Leather Backpack | 4. Schutz Tracy Snake Mule

Day: We love that this utility suit is a light khaki…a favorite color trend for Spring, and such a versatile neutral that can be dressed up or down. To ensure this look is flattering, we opted for a style with a belted waist to give shape, and with a slight flared and cropped leg.  This is also light and airy for Spring going into Summer!

For daytime, we’ve paired the utility suit with a flat mule slide. Comfort is key in our job, as we consult with clients or spend our days shopping! And oh yes, a touch of snake print to add a touch of western flair to this jumpsuit. To complete this look, a chic mini backpack, of course!  There is one by Chloe we are loving, but this one by Frye is easy on the wallet, has a very similar look, and is equally as chic! And, just in case there’s a chilly spring day, we would add an oversize denim jacket just like this one.

Night: Yes, the utility jumpsuit works for night too!  We love the idea of a heeled mule and grounding this look with this black shoe. A wooden crossbody for a touch of texture…we suggest holding it as a clutch as pictured, but love the versatility the strap offers. The brown wooden accessory is a surprise element to the outfit and we love mixing neutrals (black with brown) and doing the unexpected. And to finish it off,  drop shell earring.
